Effective Allyship, with Abi Adamson

Effective Allyship, with Abi Adamson

DE&I
Tuesday 17 September
3:30pm5:00pmUK time

Expertly facilitated by The Diversity Partnership founder Abi Adamson we'll create a safe, inclusive and participatory space to explore the touchstones of effective allyship, and share actionable steps towards being better allies and advocates in our workplaces.

Unchecked privilege, inherent bias, clumsy communication and unhelpful practices still have a hold in today's world of work. And the longer these systematic problems and cultural cracks go unchallenged, the more damage is done to the mental health, meaningful progression and enjoyment of work among marginalised and minority groups within our teams.

Action-oriented

In this practical, collaborative and inclusive session, YCN associate Abi Adamson — coach, facilitator, DE&I expert and founder of The Diversity Partnership — will create a safe and inclusive space to discuss the tenets and touchstones of effective allyship, and share actionable steps that we can all take towards being better allies and advocates in our workplaces.

Learning together

Together we'll build some important core understandings of what allyship looks and feels like in practice, why it's important at work, and the things we can practically and immediately do behaviourally to become a better ally.

The workshop will be supported with a short course of follow on micro-learning to help keep key principles front of mind and in practice; with talking points and reflection questions shared to stimulate discussion among teams.

Our Everyday Allyship Miro board is popular within that too.

Core concepts we'll cover in the session and micro-learning

• The key principles of allyship
• The different forms it can take
• Its difference from tolerance or performative privilege
• How to recognise the biases, norms and expectations of a dominant culture
• Actionable empathy

How the session will be structured:

Abi will create a safe and inclusive space for conversation, reflection and action. She'll share her own case studies, findings and insights on allyship while inviting activities and discussion points in small breakout groups and facilitating some broader conversation around key themes and opportunities.

Who the session's for:

Anyone keen to deepen their understanding of the opportunity for allyship and advocacy, and to discover, and try, practical ways into the topic among a supportive group of peers.
